Teplovýmenná plocha výmenníka tepla pozostáva z radu vlnitých dosiek, vložených medzi rámovou a prítlačnou dosku, ktorá zabezpečuje tlak. Tesnenia zabezpečujú utesnenie priestorov medzi doskami. Médium štandardne prúdi cez výmenník tepla protiprúde, čím sa zabezpečuje maximálna tepelná účinnosť a umožňuje sa dosiahnuť minimálny teplotný rozdiel medzi výstupným technologickým médiom a vstupujúcim servisným médiom.
